Editorial Reviews

From the Manufacturer
JJ COLE's new infant Hat is a darling complementary accessory to the luxurious Bundle Me. Made with the same plush shearling as the Original Bundle Me, this cream-colored head cover provides both warmth and charm. A small white logo at the beanie's base subtly adds visual attraction and a single cute pom adds the finishing touch to the top. This one size hat is made of stretch polyester lining which grows with your baby from birth. Machine washable material allows for convenience and comfort for both mom and child.

Customer Reviews

How to make your hat bigger--very easy.3
This is a beautiful hat--as one of the reviewers said, "For a Keebler elf." I was able to make the hat much bigger--to fit a 3 month plus baby by just removing the elastic from the back of the cap. Just take a seamripper or exacto knife and
1) slice the seam in the back of the cotton lining,
2) slice the seam inside headband to get to the elastic
3) slice the stitching on the elastic
4) cut the elastic out and discard it.
The whole operation can be done in about 5 minutes. You are left with a cap that fits the baby beautifully and has a split seam in the lining. If you care, you could spend 5 minutes sewing up the seam in the lining, or just leave it--it doesn't show when the hat is on the baby.
very cute4
Very cute hat! It's soft and plushy but I wish there was more info on the sizing. Based on other reviews that stated the hat ran really small, I ordered the 6-12 months for my 2 1/2 month old son. According to one particular reviewer with a baby of similar age and headsize (25th percentile, same as my son), the hat was way to small. Well I don't know if my son has a super small head ( 15 1/2 inches circumference) but the hat is way too big. Am going to keep it for next year and just order the smaller size for this winter. I actually measured the hat at the inside seam and it's appr. 18 1/2 inches around, but it also stretches! In fact I was able to stretch it over my own head to about 22 - 23 inches. Hope this helps.
I love JJ Cole Products5
I am an avid fan of JJ Cole products. Everything they do is top quality. I started with the Baby Bundleme. I have tried other items as well. The JJ Cole Baby Hat is soft and comfortable. You will love it. It's a perfect gift. If you want a high quality item, get this one!

Any item meant to catch baby poo should be able to go into the machine1
These are a fantastic idea, but utterly fail in the execution. Call me crazy, but I think that something that is expected to catch feces with any frequency should be washable in hot water, and dried in the machine. The instructions on these indicate they are to be washed in cold water on a delicate cycle and air dried. Seriously, who has time to separate baby's laundry into multiple loads for washing and then remember to air dry certain items when your head's scrambled by sleep deprivation? I put these in the dryer, hoping they'd survive, but the backs melted together; I tried to pull them apart gently and it just ripped great holes in the rubber-like backing, so they're no longer waterproof. I just use a cloth diaper instead -- they're absorbent enough to catch most accidents, can go right into the hot water wash to get good and clean after a mess, and are cheap enough that I can buy enough always to have a fresh one to swap in.
Don't waste your money1
These liners are not even close to the quality of the liners that come with the Boppy changing pad cover. They are thin and scratchy, and when you dry them on low as directed, they curl up like a scroll never to be flat again. Shame on Boppy. They're clearly capable of making a better quality product, because the liners that came with my change pad covers had none of these problems. They just chose to cut corners.
One of my favorite baby items5
Now that my son is seven months, it's time to write this review.

I do consider myself a clean freak and unfortunately, I love the color white! So, I knew it would be a challenge keeping the changing cover bright white. However, when I stumbled upon this product, I was so excited.

Thanks to these, my changing pad covers look brand new. I loved these. Every time there were accidents (there were lots, especially with a boy!), I would hand wash them with soap and water and hang dry them on my towel rack in the bathroom. While that one dries (which took a day), I would use the other ones. After a few months of hand washing them, I started to throw them in the washer, but still hang dry them and it's worked out perfectly. They are still in mint, bright white condition.

I read the reviews before I bought these and decided to never machine dry them and it's worked out amazingly. However, if you want them in their bright white condition, I would recommend hand washing them with soap immediately after your little one has been taken care of.

Shop elsewhere for a kids kit1
I had my eye on this for a long time since I love my Tweezerman tweezers... and I like the company's green and social commitment.... so I finally gave into temptation and bought this.

Cheap China plastic.... clippers fall out of and slip around in the plastic handle.

It is hands down the worst clipper I have seen or used. I have had two different Safety first clippers that are much better.

The scissors are shaped in such a way that unless you child has super long nails... you'll never get a snip in.

I guess the nail file and brush are o.k. but really would I have spent $30 for those?

Shame on you Tweezerman for luring mother's into overspending for a useless kit.

Follow-up: I contacted the company to voice my opinion... they emailed me back...apologized and said that they would exchange this kit for one of their other products... which I did... I think that is excellent customer service!!!!
Great scissors 5
I love using the scissors on my new grandson. They are just the right size for getting around tiny fingers. In the past I have used cheap scissors that just didn't cut the nails smoothly. But the Tweezerman scissors are good quality and cut his soft fingernails smoothly the first time.
Best Kit ever5
I disagree with the other review. The little scissors are the best the in the world for clipping an infants nails. I lost my first pair and I am buying another kit!!! I have told all my new mom friends about these.

A Helping Hand For New Parents

It keeps track of when baby last napped or ate or had a diaper change, so new parents don't have to rely on their memories. Featuring four timers that count up with a touch of a button, including a miscellaneous timer for medications, and a host of other helpful features, this multi-purpose nursery tool helps parents meet all of baby's basic needs. User-Friendly Design
Winner of the 2007 iParenting Media Award, the Baby Care Timer is easy to use thanks to the clear and concise instructions. In addition, the soft glow nightlight helps parents find their way around the baby's room at night without waking baby up. This is also an ideal low-level light for nursing moms to use during night feedings. For added convenience, if the light is left on, it will automatically turn off after seven minutes.
The Baby Care Timer measures 2.25x3.75x1.375 inches (WxHxD) and takes three "AAA" batteries (not included).

From the Manufacturer
The ITZBEEN Baby Care Timeris the first multi-purpose nursery tool designed to help new parents remember the basic details of baby-care. New parents often ask: “How long ago did I feed her?”, or “how long has it been since you change his diaper?” The ITZBEEN has four timers that count up with the touch of a button. No more charts and journals! One look at the ITZBEEN and you will always know how long it’s been! The ITZBEEN also allows you to set an optional reminder alarm for each of the timers, for example: change the diaper every 2 hours, or give medication every 4 hours. If the time limit is reached, the appropriate button will light up, and an optional alarm will briefly beep. The ITZBEEN has several other helpful features: Nursing Reminder Switch – easily reminds mom which side baby nursed from last, Soft-glow Nightlight – to help parents find their way in the dark without waking the baby (the nightlight automatically goes off after 7 minutes), Backlit Display – so parents can read the times and the clock in the dark, and a Back Clip – makes the ITZBEEN Baby Care Timer totally portable and allows for hands-free use of the Nightlight.

Customer Reviews

There are not a lot of items you need on Day 1, but you need this5
When I suggested to my wife that we needed this item on our baby registry, she thought I was just feeding my gadget habit, baby-style. Having been a night nurse for newborn twins and triplets for years, she thought she would never need this item. Well, this item arrived on the second day after we got home from the hospital - and my wife wishes that she had it on the first.

You see, one of the skills that really suffers with sleep deprivation is math. If you can even mentally keep track of the times or write them down, doing the "hours" math on when our baby last fed, when she had her diaper changed, etc. is really not as easy as it sounds when you've had no more than about 45 minutes of continuous sleep for four days. So this does it for you - four timers with little icons and a left/right slider for breastfeeding (which is also a tough thing to remember, but something you really don't want to forget). It is exceedingly simple - press the icon button and it restarts the timer - perfect for the sleep-deprived mind.

As for the suggestions by some reviewers that this timer needs additional features, such as feeding totals and quantity subtotals, I disagree. I think that additional features would likely take away from the simplicity of the device - making it more complicated to operate on limited brainpower and thus less likely to be used. Those with more complex needs might consider a PDA with a spreadsheet or specially designed program.

It's not often I get to hear that I was right and my wife was wrong (we're usually on the same page). This was one of those times.
Must have - they should issue these in hospitals when you give birth5
This timer system is beyond helpful - it becomes your BRAIN when you have a newborn, as the hours, feedings and diaper changes become a total blur during this amazing yet totally sleep deprived time of your life. While it would be nice to have a few more features like total ounces drank, whether the diaper was a wet one or a doodie, and tracking of daily totals for everything - that'd be more of a infantcare PDA, and is a bit beyond the scope of this little device. All it aims to be is a timer that will keep track of the key stats in your baby's life, consequently making your life way easier. I wake up in middle of the night and the baby is grunting, for example. I click the backlight button and see that in fact the baby has only been asleep for an hour, and had a diaper and bottle right before that. Then I just go back to sleep. On the other hand, he beguns grunting and making noises and I see the Itzbeen says it's been 2 hours 30 minutes since his last bottle or diaper, and I know it's time to get up and feed him.

It's also great for team caregiving, as my husband can hand me the Itzbeen after doing his morning shift, and I automatically know when the last change and bottle were. We use the wildcard button to track bottle expirations too.

Thumbs up for the developers of this cool gadget - I hope to see an "Itzbeen II" w/ some advanced features in time for my next baby - although keeping it simple does help keep it easy and quick to use, especially in the fog of a 1am, 3am, and 5am feeding schedule! (my son never got the memo that full term babies are only supposed to eat every 3 or 4 hours :)
Helpful gadget4
Having twins we always had to write down everything, or we wouldn't remember whom we feed, when we feed them, or any details. We used to keep a chart, but then I received the Itzbeen as a gift. It is so much faster to press a button then to write everything down. When we go out I just toss it in my purse and when the babies start crying I can just pull out the itzbeen look at the timers and figure out if it is time to eat or they are just being fussy. If the boys do eat or require a diaper change, I can record it easily. no more carrying around a clipboard!
I didn't give it 5 stars because it would be even better if it could track how many oz of formula the babies eat and if it could total the number of hours the baby slept.
But still it is a nice tool for forgetful people. I'm buying a 2nd one, so I have one for each of my twins.

Comfortable Carrying and Easy Adjustment
Carrying baby in your arms can be a wonderful bonding experience, but it can also strain the muscles in your back, shoulders and neck. That's why the Original BabyBjorn is designed to evenly distribute baby's weight, resulting in less stress and pressure on your body. When adjusted correctly, the padded shoulder straps allow you to comfortably carry a baby weighing at least eight pounds and 21 inches (about one week old) to a maximum weight of 25 pounds. It's also easy to slip on and buckle the Original BabyBjorn, even without assistance, and all the necessary adjustments can conveniently be made from the front. Supports Growing Babies
The Original BabyBjorn offers firm support that holds your baby's legs and arms in a physiologically correct position to protect his or her back and head. When your baby is a little older and has a stronger neck, the neck-rest can be folded down and you can adjust the seat height so that the child can face forward and look around--something curious babies love while you're cooking dinner, cleaning the house, or walking through the neighborhood. The unique design also allows the front piece to be easily removed so as not to wake a sound sleeping baby when you're taking off the carrier.

The recipient of several awards, including the 1999 Silver Award and Design of the Decade ISDA, which honors the 36 top products of the decade, this BabyBjorn is both reliable and easy to care for. It can be machine washed separately in warm water, with a gentle, bleach-free detergent, and hung to dry. The Original BabyBjorn is also approved in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1, eco-certification, so you can trust that it's safe for baby.

Customer Reviews

My baby 13 months old and I still use this daily! The BJORN gave me my 2 hands back!5
This carrier is the best! My son is child #5 and I have had a carrier for each one. This last one is definately the best! Not wanting to spend this much money on a "carrier" of all things, I researched and considered carefully before purchasing this. All reviews and reports were accurate...This is definately worth the extra dollars.

The ease of use is remarkable. I can get baby in and out all by myself. From the day after Luca and I arrived home from the hospital, we were out for our daily walks. I sing in our church choir every Sunday and Luca is in his Bjorn close to me and we have never missed a Mass! It is always in the diaper bag when we shop because he ultimately ends up in his carrier. Even at age 13 months I use this daily! Now he sits forward in it and charms all he sees!

My older boys take Karate 5 days a week, so Luca is in the carrier facing forward and watching his brothers. My other mom friends are struggling with their toddlers and mine is content in his BJORN! A few of them even went out and purchased it after seeing how easy it is to use. Now we have our own section where we stand and let our babies talk and interact with eachother. My little guy is so content in his that I can even sit down using mine!

The BABY BJORN has become a regular part of my wardrobe! Before I get in the car, I put on my BJORN. I have two strollers in the back of the van but I never use them! This carrier is where he is most content!

Shopping, trips to the vet, doctors, karate, weekly Mass, recently a trip to the funeral home for a close relative, football games and sporting events, pumpkin patch and corn mazes, parades, summer carnivals festivals and picnics, I even ran stand for our church's picnic last summer with my baby in his BJORN...and oh... the list just goes on and on.

I cannot praise this enough for the convenience it has added to my family's life. There is NO staying home using the new baby as an excuse when your baby is #5! This carrier makes it so much easier! Easy in, easy out! When Luca falls asleep in his car seat he goes in this facing me. When he wakes up, he faces out. I can unfasten this and turn him aropund and re-fasten him without putting him down or passiong him off to someone else...that is the amazing feature of this wonderful product!

Seems intimidating at fira=st but believe me, you catch on fast! I cannot tell you how many of these I have sold in stores I just happened to be in shopping! Exasperated parents would just approach me asking me where I got my carrier. Several times I actually watched parents take this from the box on the shelves, put baby in, and pay for it on the way out!

No backaches for me. I am about 5'7" and weigh about 115lbs. Luca is about 23 lbs. I have no complaints and on karate nights I am wearing him for about 90 minutes!

Unfortunately I have never figured out how to nurse baby when in this. I do recall reading that you could but I have found it impossible, at least for me.

You put your arms through the straps and the front of the carrier is open, you then take the front piece and snap it on (very easy) You can then place your baby on you and hold him/her with one arm and pick up the front of the carrier and bring it up over baby sliding the built in post-like fasteners into their respective color coded openings on the straps. Baby is safe secure and mom/dad has 2 free hands!

You really will not be sorry you splurged on this!

Great great product!

Love the BB Carrier with extra-long straps!5
My husband (6' 1") insisted on the Baby Bjoern with the extra-long straps. I am happy to report that it is magnificent, even for short people! (I'm only 5' 3".) It converts to fit either one of us quickly and easily and I have always felt that our son was snug and secure inside. Now that he's older (6 months), he LOVES to face outward and see where we're headed. We toured Colonial Williamsburg (lots of walking and wandering in and out of colonial buildings), quickly and easily with the BB. While other mommies struggled with their strollers and couldn't get into many of the buildings, we whisked through everything safely and easily.

I know many people are concerned that they won't use it enough to justify the price - my response is that you need to make yourself use it! Try it out during a simple walk through the mall or your neighborhood. As you grow accustomed to it you'll realize how easy it is to hook on and go.

Enjoy! I HIGHLY recommend this product!
Surprised that this is our favorite carrier!5
There have been so many times we really loved this carrier. Originally, though, I wanted a sling because I thought they were better for baby, like the previous reviewer, and all my crunchy friends recommended them. They may be, but we've tried the hotsling, the maya wrap, and even the ergo baby carrier, and this is by far the best and easiest for us.

For months, the only way to get my baby to stop his colicky crying was to put him in the Bjorn and go for a walk. It would put him right to sleep like magic, and we'd come inside, lean over his rocker, and unlatch the Bjorn with him in it (the outer piece comes completely off) and he would just stay asleep. Try that with a sling!

Now that he's past his colicky phase, I use the sling a lot and it's great, but for a quick run to the store, nothing beats the Bjorn for speed. It's so easy to put on and take off - and it's also easier to get my husband (and my dad!) to wear the baby with the Bjorn, he thinks the sling is for moms.

I had two problems: at about 20 pounds and 27 inches, his arms don't fit in the arm holes, and they don't fit above them either. It still works without the top latches, though, and it's cooler in summer. I just keep a hold on him to be sure. And when he was a couple months old and I was wearing the Bjorn a lot, I got a plugged milk duct. I thought it was about where the strap lay on my chest, so I stopped wearing the Bjorn for a while. I was having other breastfeeding problems at the time so it might not have been the Bjorn, but who knows?

I got this as a hand-me-down, and I thought it was going to just collect dust, but boy was I wrong. It's in the washer right now!

Need a convenient way to extend the life of your changing pad? The secret to the Basic Comfort Ultra Plush changing pad cover is the Velboa fabric. Used frequently in baby blankets and plush dolls, Velboa is a synthetic fabric that is extremely soft, and almost fur-like. Being synthetic lends to its practical use given its stain-resistant and machine-washable properties. Even though it was made for Basic Comfort changing pads, the Ultra Plush changing pad cover will fit standard 16-by-34-inch changing pads and accommodates security straps as well. It should be noted that the sage color is noticeably lighter, and perhaps brighter than your traditional pastel. The manufacturer recommended age is birth to 24 months. --Scott Teal

Nice and soft but not necessary4
We have a few of these changing pad covers, which fit well on the Basic Comfort Contour Changing Pad. The Velboa material is plush and soft, and it would feel great next to our baby's skin-- if it ever came in contact with him! Because our baby is a boy (i.e., is prone to spraying) and is breastfed (i.e., drinks a natural laxative all day), we've found it's more convenient to put a flannel receiving blanket on top of the changing pad and just whip that off every time he gets it dirty. This happens at least once or twice a day, so it's much more cost-effective to have about a dozen inexpensive receiving blankets on hand than a dozen relatively expensive changing pad covers, unless you want to do the laundry every day. Maybe someday when our boy gets a little older and has fewer diaper changes, he'll be able to lie directly on top of the changing pad cover, at which point I'm sure he'll find it nice and comfy. For young infants, though, I'd recommend investing in quantity rather than quality.
the absolutely BEST pad cover!!!!!!!!!!!!5
I have 2 Change Pad Covers. This and Munchkin. It's a world of difference so soft and fluffy this cover is. Though we have been washing this cover every other week (my baby is 3 mo old now), it still feels and looks like new.
Great Cover5
Easy to clean, great color, and durable. I received it as a hand-me-down and it still looked almost new. Now that my baby is out of diapers the changing pad cover will be passed on yet again. I wish more baby products had this kind of durability.

Lots of "hidden" value5
At first glance, this book appears to be simply an illustration of a kids song. Some reviewers have complained that that's all there is..so why buy it. But actually, there is a lot more there if you look.

First of all, while illustrated songs seem like an odd choice sometimes to adults, little kids LOVE them. Invariably, they are the ones my two year old brings to me again and again. They are also the first books that kids are able to memorize. This is important because they like to pull them out when they are playing independently, and model reading on their own. What a satisfying experience for a pre-reader! Plus, for parents for whom it doesn't come as naturally to bring music into their children's lives, these sorts of books are a great way to do so.

This book does an excellent job of being really clear with the pictures lining up the words and the body parts. The first line, she gives each body part it's very own page, so that they can be large and really obvious -- the little animal on the page mirroring the same body part as the baby is also very adorable.

When she gets to eyes, ears, mouth and nose, she adds another dimension by putting in item on the page that you can do with that body part -- for eyes - books, for ears - baby instruments, for mouth - baby food and sippy cup, and for nose - flowers. So there is a discussion element if you are reading this with your baby and choose to take it.

The back of the book has the last "knees and toes" echo...pretty cute, and also has the whole song written out under a staff with musical notes. My older daughter has taken to grabbing this 'baby' book and asking how to pluck it out on her little piano keyboard. So the book can have a second life for that purpose later on.

The pictures of the babies are endearing.. I love their happy little faces. It is worth noting that while the babies are definitely different "shades" -- it's hardly what I'd call multi-cultural, which is a shame because there's no reason why it couldn't have been. She did throw in a couple girls.

All and all, if the multicultural issue doesn't concern you, I'd recommend this highly for your own little on, or for a gift.
Classic song 5
My husband and I were trying to teach out daughter where her eyes, nose, mouth etc were. My husband has never heard this song so it was hard for him to do with our daughter. I found this book and now this is daddy's book to read. within a week our daughter knows where her body parts are and how to say and she loves reading it with her dad. I would recommend this book.
One of our favorites5
My daughter loves this book. She is 14 months old and thanks to this book she now tries to do the "moves" that go with the song.

Good rearview sunshade5
I actually really like my rear sunshade. Once you get used to it being back there it's not too difficult to see out of the rear window, and I find it helps a little with glare from headlights at night. It keeps the sun off of my kids, and fits the entire back window in my small sedan. And it was really easy to install. The suction cups stay in place for a good majority of the time. The only time they come undone is when the weather changes (like hot to cold weather), but any suction cup would do that. I would recommend this to anyone, as I don't have any problems with it.
Decent sunshade with room for improvement3
Pros: good size for most midsize sedans; clean minimalist appearance

Cons: fabric is not very transparent: for a clear, reliable view of vehicles behind you, you will have to use your side-view mirrors; plastic anchors for vertical mounting behind rear headrests are clumsy and didn't fit either of my vehicles well.
Pretty good for the price4
The picture here is deceptive - the shade is not white, it is black on both sides. Even with it being black though I still am able to see through it fairly well, and it does a good job of keeping the sun out of the baby's eyes the majority of the time. It does not cover the entire back window area (I have a 2006 Subaru Impreza) but there is just a small uncovered space on either side. It took a few tries to get the suction cups to stay up - I did have to clean the window area where the suction cups go before they would stick.

The best thing about this prenatal yoga program is that there is a model for each trimester. Instructor Shiva Rea demonstrates each of the stretches and exercises for the first trimester, and two pregnant women show modifications for the second and third trimesters (they're even dressed in different colors for easy reference). This removes the self-doubt home-exercisers often have about the safety of certain moves--especially in that cumbersome final stage of pregnancy. Using gentle voice-over instruction, Rea and her assistants take viewers through a half hour of meditational stretches using blocks and chairs for support. She follows that up with 16 minutes of floor work: lunge pose, bridge pose, child's pose, plank pose--all with the necessary adjustments. She winds things up with a four-minute guided relaxation on her back--the traditional position--with the second-trimester woman on her side and the third on her side with one leg up on a chair. By including the different adaptations, Rea has made a program with the flexibility to carry an expectant mom through her entire pregnancy--and beyond, if she wishes. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Prenatal Yoga5
I would definitely recommend Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea. She breaks up the workout into 3 sections approximately 15 minutes each, so you can do what you have time for. I feel great after doing the stretches. There are 3 woman who do the routine on tape, one for each trimester of pregnancy, so you always have someone to follow. The tape has gentle music in the background and a visually appealing backdrop for the class. While this may not sound important, it makes a huge difference when you are watching it 3 or more times a week.
The tape is run like a class, so you can just put it in and go. You don't have to wait while someone explains the pose and then forms the pose.
My only criticism is that some poses are not explained that well. So if you are a beginner or have never done a pose, you may need some additional explanation that is not available on the tape.
a comparison of 3 prenatal fitness videos, including Prenatal Yoga4
I purchased and tried 3 prenatal fitness DVDs around the same time:

* Perfect Pregnancy Workout
* Prenatal Yoga
* Leisa Hart's Fit Mama Prenatal Workout

Here's how I thought they compared. (Note that I do yoga and walk regularly; while I enjoy dancing, I do not dance regularly. I'm not overweight.)

* Perfect Pregnancy Workout - 5 stars. Designed and narrated by a Cirque du Soleil acrobat (faint French accent), this video is my favorite of the three. The woman demonstrating the workout is about 8 months pregnant and in amazing athletic shape (visible muscle definition). The theme of this video seems to be preparing for birth and staying strong and fit. It has two sections: (a) workout and (b) instructions.

(a) After a mercifully brief cheesy earth-mother introduction, the yoga-based workout is vigorous yet flowing and straightforward, building incredible muscle strength, flexibility, and stamina. It includes squats, lunges, lots of ab work, lots of great hip stretches, kegels, lots of different arm strengtheners. At the end I am sweating, breathing harder, relaxed, and satisfied. The next day my muscles are sore (in a good way) and feel stronger. The music is world-beat without vocals, easy to exercise to.

(b) The instructions section is excellent as well. Animated anatomical graphics clearly illustrate diastasis, how to check yourself for it, and how to modify your workout to avoid further muscle separation, as well as exactly what kegels are. This part also explains in depth how to do the moves in the workout.

* Prenatal Yoga - 4 stars. Designed and narrated by a UCLA-graduated yogi, this video is my second favorite. Shiva is under 3 months' pregnant in the demonstration but has women behind her in second and third trimesters. The theme of this video seems to be relaxing and preparing for motherhood. It has three sections: (a) workout, (b) massage, and (c) interview.

(a) The workout is much less vigorous than Perfect Pregnancy, but includes squats, lunges, many spinal twists, kegels (no deep explanation, just metaphor), lots of different stretches. At the end I am sweating a bit, relaxed, and satisfied. The music is new-age without vocals. For some reason, Shiva does not pronounce the "h" in "exhale" which can be distracting. Also the narration gets slightly out of sync with the demonstration in a few places, which can be confusing.

(b) The massage section is fabulous if you have a partner willing to watch it and give you one! Great techniques for feet, legs, back, and neck.

(c) Shiva explains her story in the interview, how her father named her after an Indian god, how she took up yoga in college, etc.

* Leisa Hart's FitMama - 2 stars. I bought this on Amazon's recommendation and I'm sorry I did. My biggest gripe is that this video doesn't focus on smooth continuous deep breathing, unlike the other two DVDs. Leisa is a perky actress who does infomercials. She is 8 months pregnant in this but her body looks very different (thin, wiry) compared to the woman's in Perfect Pregnancy (athletic). The theme of this video seems to be feeling better (sexier) about oneself while pregnant. It has basically two sections: (a) workout and (b) bonus stretches.

(a) The workout is much less vigorous than Perfect Pregnancy yet goes at a faster, more erratic pace than either of the other two videos. It has four parts: salsa dance, "yoga fat burn," labor and delivery prep, and prenatal stretch and relaxation. The dancing is about 8 moves repeated, with a few squats. I feel foolish and bored doing this. The yoga fat burn is more aerobics than yoga, includes ab work, squats, no twists, never holds any pose for long, is repetitive. Labor and delivery prep includes kegels (no real explanation), many boring arm swings, ab work. Prenatal stretch and relaxation includes leg stretches, ab work, is repetitive. The music is salsa, soft rock, and world beat without vocals; very good workout music, loud in places.

(b) The bonus stretches are the best part, but are buried under Special Features (the DVD doesn't seem very well organized). These include leg, back, hip and shoulder stretches actually held for several seconds, squats, plenty of rapid boring arm swings.

All three videos show women in different trimesters doing the exercises and mention appropriate modifications. All three videos explain how to do the exercises safely and how to recognize warning signs of overdoing it.

If you're a yoga gal like me and you want to buy just one prenatal yoga video, get Perfect Pregnancy. If you want your partner to give you a great massage too, get Prenatal Yoga.
Great Pregnancy Exercise Video5
I was new to yoga when I started this tape. A former runner and elliptical-trainer enthusiast, I am used to a workout that makes you sweat buckets and finish feeling spent. This was a very new experience for me.
Yoga was recommended to me by my doula. I was interested because I've never been a flexible person and I wanted desperately to exercise throughout my pregnancy. Yoga is ideal because it can be modified as your progress and it teaches you to relax, breathe, and move deliberately with control. Every morning, when I've finished this workout, I feel so loose and relaxed, like I could "slip down the drain." I also feel more confident as my due date approaches that I will successfully birth my baby without any medication. I am learning how to open up my pelvis, strengthen my pelvic floor, and RELAX AND BREATHE. While pregnant you have 40 weeks (give or take a few) to prepare for the hardest (and most rewarding) work you'll ever do. Make the most of it!
This video was designed with your choice of three people to follow--one for each trimester. Many modifications are suggested and modeled so no matter what your current state of fitness, you will find stretches and poses to do.
You will be plagued by aches and pains and restless nights if you don't take care of your body while you're pregnant. So many of my friends try to comiserate with me, "Oh, you poor thing! I hated being pregnant! It's so uncomfortable!" I just smile and say, "I feel great!" becuase I really do.
